When iPhone 4S was launched in October 2011, many of the people reported that the battery life is not good as the iPhone 4. The battery life of iPhone 4S is worse than the iPhone 4. Many people reported that they could only run the iPhone 4S for some hours whereas the owners of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S reported a better battery life for the iPhone 4 than iPhone 4S. This issue of Battery drainage became the biggest issue in iPhone 4S. Still people didn’t stopped to buy the iPhone 4S because of the most appealing feature called SIRI and the inner specs.

After some research, it came out that the feature in iPhone 4S called Raise to Speak for SIRI is the main thing for the Massive battery Drainage issue on iPhone 4S. People were advised to turn that feature off and see the battery life. Somehow the battery got a little better than previous after turning that feature off. This doesn’t mean that the issue was gone. The issue is still there in the iPhone 4S. We were afraid that the battery drainage issue might be of the hardware or so. Luckily the issue is not of any hardware fault on iPhone 4S. The issue lies in iOS version.

Apple released an update of iOS 5.0.1 claiming to fix the Battery Drainage issue on it; still not any major improvement has come to the light regarding the Battery. Then Apple pushed iOS 5.1 Beta to Developers to see if the Battery performance is good or not. So far no reports came out regarding the battery issue fix in iOS 5.1 Betas.

The other option was to rely on the Jailbreak community as the Untethered Jailbreak was around the corner. Soon the Untethered jailbreak came out for iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

While everyone was happy after Jailbreaking their iDevices, few days later we came across a new tweak released by repo.insanelyi.com claiming to fix the Battery issues on iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S. The tweak was only available to its V.I.P Members and the V.I.P membership costed some bugs. Many blogs posted about the battery drainage fix by that repo and were claiming to be working for them.

After hearing that many people might have opted for that option and later on like us found that it is useless.

Sam Bingner, the person behind SAM and SAM Pref used for official Hacktivation on a Jailbroken iPhone did some test and found out that the Tweak provided by the repo is a hoax. The Tweak didn’t do anything new or old.

There has been a lot of hype recently about a 4S ‘Battery Fix’ – DHowett found that all it does is replace /System/Library/CoreServices/powerd.bundle/com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist

I looked for any possible impact of this.

While this sounds good… we’re changing the power settings right? The reality is that it does absolutely nothing. I wrote a small program to look at the active power settings (which is what the phone uses of the plist that is modified) and this is the result:

Sams-ATT-4S:~ root# showPower

2012-01-25 00:37:57.585 showPower[557:707] IOPMCopyUnabridgedActivePMPreferences:

{

    “AC Power” =     {

        “Disk Sleep Timer” = 10;

        “Display Sleep Timer” = 10;

        “System Sleep Timer” = 2147483647;

        TTYSPreventSleep = 1;

    };

    “Battery Power” =     {

        “Disk Sleep Timer” = 10;

        “Display Sleep Timer” = 2;

        “System Sleep Timer” = 2147483647;

        TTYSPreventSleep = 1;

    };

}

The only thing it did was to replace some file on your iPhone and that’s it. So those who paid for this are in tough luck.

We would suggest you that never ever buy a Tweak which is saying to fix your Battery because only Apple so far can provide you with a proper fix. So never ever pay for these things in Cydia or outside Cydia.
