Twitter App For iOS & Android Updated, Brings Old Swipe To Reveal Feature

Twitter has just rolled out a new update to its application for iOS devices, and Android devices too. The new update is released in the App Store, and Android Market. Twitter updated its stock iOS twitter app with bug fixing and with the addition of swipe-to-reveal actions on both versions of the app, means for both Android and iPhone devices. Moreover, Twitter has also re-introduced an old feature of the application in the new update, and it appears that the new application updated just add some of the old features of the application into the new UI carrying twitter application.


In the new update of their application on iPhone, Twitter includes the swipe actions on tweets once again the application for both Android and iPhone devices, and also allows you to perform certain tasks by swiping a finger on the tweet, just like gives you the shortcut in the application to perform several tasks. In addition to some old features addition, and bugs fixing, it is reported that the new Twitter application is carrying a new algorithm that handles the “Find Friend” feature of the Twitter on smart-phones. Through the new feature, they will be started uploading the user’s contact database on their servers, and alert them whenever someone from their contacts joins the Twitter.

  • Swipe shortcut: Swipe a Tweet in your home timeline to reply to, retweet, favorite or share it, or view the Twitter user’s profile, without leaving your timeline.
  • “Find friends”: We’ve added a confirmation alert when you select “Find friends”. This notification more clearly and explicitly messages the fact that when you upload your contacts’ email addresses and phone numbers, you can quickly find which of your friends are on Twitter (that is, if they’ve chosen to be discoverable by email or phone number).

Twitter for iPhone

  • Swipe shortcut: Swipe a Tweet in your home timeline to reply to, retweet, favorite or share it, or view the Twitter user’s profile, without leaving your timeline.
  • Copy and paste: We’ve returned the ability to copy and paste the text of Tweets and user profiles. Just press and hold to copy.
  • Link love: The “share” feature used to just give you the option to copy or email a link to a Tweet. Now, if there’s a link within a Tweet, you’ll see the option to tweet, copy or mail that link, or you can choose to read it later. (Select a “Read Later Service” under Settings > Advanced.)
    • Pressing and holding links provides similar options, along with the ability to open the link in Safari.
  • Direct messages: We updated the design for Direct Messages and returned the ability to mark all DMs as read. Simply tap the check mark in the lower right corner.
  • Font size settings: Change the font size under Settings > Advanced.

Twitter for Android

  • New devices: Twitter for Android is now optimized to run on Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich, as well as on the Kindle Fire (available today through the Amazon Appstore) and the Barnes & Noble NOOK Color and NOOK Tablet (available February 23 though the Barnes & Noble NOOK Store).

It is reported that both updated versions of the application is submitted to both platform markets, and the Twitter for Android is released in the Android Market Place, but the iOS app may take a little more time before making its debut in your device.
