ITV Warns Apple To Stay Away From The Name of iTV

by Daudi - on Feb 13th 2012 - No Comments

March is coming near and the new releases are expected to come in the month of March from Apple at least. Previously we have seen many rumors regarding the iPhone 5, iPad 3 and Apple TV. The rumors of the upcoming iPhone 5 are pointing the release at this year WWDC where as the rumors for iPad 3 and the new Apple TV are pointing out towards the March release. Few days’ back we have seen many rumors saying about the iPad 3 that it has been send into production or the iPad 3 is ready or what so ever the case is and the release is in March.

The iPad 3 won’t be coming alone in March; the new Apple TV will also be debuting in March with iPad 3. Apple is expected to name the new Apple HDTV as iTV, but Apple could have serious licensing issues over that name with a Britain’s largest commercial broadcasters, ITV. This 50+ year-old company has told Apple that not to go with that name because they are already running with that name from past 50+ years. According to Telegraph, ITV has written Apple a letter regarding not to use this name for their upcoming Apple TV.

ITV has written to Apple to warn the Silicon Valley technology giant off using its three-letter name for its long-awaited, “iTV” smart television.

The report claimed that the chief executive of ITV Adam Crozier, had talked with Apple in 2010 regarding this name that they won’t use the name at least in U.K for their product.

When Apple decided to launch their TV, they temporarily named it as iTV. When it was launched the name was changed to Apple TV. Now we have to see that what name the company will come up with.

by Daudi - on Feb 5th 2012 - No Comments

If you are a regular reader at FreakGeeks, so you might have gone through the news of the new up coming tool called iOSOpenDev. It is the tool, which opens a brand-new platform for the developers and takes the development to the next level with the help of Xcode for MAC OS X. This tool simply allows you to make Tweaks for Cydia using Xcode and this tool. These is really a great opportunity for all those who want to do something in their life and want to be named as one of the top Tweak makers in Cydia.

iOSOpenDev is an open platform for all the developers who want to do some development for the Jailbreak world and got a very little experience with development or they are already existing developers and working for some organization or making Apps for fun.

The developers of this tool says that this is the first public release of iOSOpenDev, so expect some bugs and consider it as a Beta yet. If you come across any bugs or problems, feel free to contact the developer at dev@iosopendev.com. You can also take a custom screen shot of the problem and email the developer.

If you are a new user, so you will have to wait for the how to videos to be released by the Developer later on. If you know about development, know how to use Xcode and combine the packages, so just download this iOSOpenDev and start your work.

Before you proceed on, below is some useful information for you.

  • Mac OS X 10.6.x or 10.7.x
  • Xcode 4.x
  • dpkg — provides dpkg-deb for building Debian packages, install using MacPorts (http://www.macports.org)

Release Notes

  • 1.0.1 (05-Feb-2012)
    • Installer’s “Dependency Tools” option will no longer try to install dpkg (and MacPorts if needed). This was causing too many problems for end-users. The MacPorts and dpkg installations were failing too often.
    • Installer’s “Set up latest iOS SDK” option will (intentionally) fail if dpkg-deb is not found.
    • Installer’s “Dump SDK Header Files” option is not selected by default. End-users were experiencing high processing time for this option and dumping of header files can be done with the iosod tool anyways.
    • Added an “Import Information” message in the installer in hopes it’s actually read!
    • Added missing quotes around variables in iosod tool in hopes to resolve an issue when a project has a space in its path.
    • “Unsetting” language in all scripts, which may be the cause of a possible grep issue.

You can download the iOSOpenDev Tool from

iOSOpenDev 1.0.1 Installer

And enjoy the next level of Development. If you like the hard work behind this tool and find this tool a useful, so take your time and consider donating the developer by visiting his website and support him for future improvements.

Motorola Made Apple To Pull All 3G Devices From German Online Store

by Daudi - on Feb 4th 2012 - No Comments

The cat and mouse game is going wider and wider. Apple is having some new competitors who are interested in banning Apple products at different places. If you think that it is Samsung once again so you are wrong. This time we got a new name called Motorola. This time Samsung had some rest while Motorola was in action.

Previously it was Samsung VS Apple and now Motorola VS Apple. Today Bloomberg reported that Apple had pulled off its all 3G technology containing devices from the German Online Store because Motorola Won the 3G GPRS Patent against Apple. The devices removed were iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad 2 WIFI+ 3G. The iPhone 4S was left behind. It was not removed. These all removed devices are available in Apple’s official Store and authorized Resellers.

“While some iPad and iPhone models are not available through Apple’s online store in Germany right now, customers should have no problem finding them at one of our retail stores or an authorized reseller,” [Apple spokesman Alan] Hely said.

Apple is pleasing the decision made by the Court and it is looking forward to remove the 3G capable Devices from its Online German Store. It is also believed that Motorola is planning to put a ban on Apple’s iCloud services. Motorola can only do so if they can post a $132 million bond in favor of them self to stay protected in case they lose the case.

Now it looks like the small companies have also started to play blind folds and big games. This smart move idea must be coming to them after the battle between Samsung and Apple. Some one have said it right that “No pain, No game”. So Apple should be ready to face these sort of patent lawsuites in near future.

Now the news are claiming that Apple has been allowed to put their 3G Devices back to the shelve which were taken off for some hours because the Lawsuit Motorola won was suspended few months ago.

Apple has been granted a suspension of the German injunction against 3G-enabled iOS devices, with the iPad WiFi + 3G, iPhone 4 and other gadgets back on sale through the company’s online store. ”All iPad and iPhone models will be back on sale through Apple’s online store in Germany shortly” the company told us in a statement. “Apple appealed this ruling because Motorola repeatedly refuses to license this patent to Apple on reasonable terms, despite having declared it an industry standard patent seven years ago.”

So all the 3G GPRS iDevices removed from the online store will be coming back really soon. Tough luck Motorola.

iOSOpenDev- Takes You To Next Level of Development With Xcode

by Daudi - on Jan 30th 2012 - No Comments

Finally the time has arrived to move on to the next level of Development. Get ready with your MAC OS X and warm up your hands for the upcoming tool called iOSOpenDev. iOSOpenDev will be a simple tool which will let you develop Apps for the Jailbreak community using Xcode.

Modmyi reports:

A developer named Spencer James is nearing release of his project iOSOpenDev, which “sets up user environment, Xcode, and iOS SDK for ‘open’ development.” The project will come with Xcode templates for creating common types of jailbreak tweaks, including Activator listeners, command line tools, dynamic libraries, Notification Center widgets, SBSettings toggles, and Mobile Substrate tweaks. It will even build .deb files of the completed projects for when a developer wants to submit to Cydia for publication (although community repo managers all pull a part .deb’s for security anyway, to understand the packages contents before publication).

Many of the hackers and Developers of the Jailbreak community don’t use Xcode to create Tweaks for Cydia. They do all the procedure manually. This iOSOpenDev will allow those people and those who are developing Apps for Apple using Xcode to make some cool Tweaks for the Jailbreak community by iOSOpenDev.

This is a really great opportunity for those who are in development, know a little about development, or are willing to learn about development of Cydia packages (.deb files).

The Developer of iOSOpenDev has demoed his awesome piece of work which gives a little idea about his work.

Till now there is no specific ETA for this Tool, the developer has said to release the tool when he is finished with all testing on different MAC OS X’s. The ETA told by the Developer is about a week or so. Once the tool is ready, it will be made public. No words have been said on the pricing of this tool.

We hope that the tool debuts soon, so we can see many more Tweaks and improvements to the current Tweaks like SBSettings.
