Jan-Michael Cart, Concept Designer Known Around The Web Gets Hired By Apple

by Absar Abdul Rahman - on Dec 14th 2011 - No Comments

Before the release of iOS 5 there were damn concepts around the world wide web and some of them were by Jan-Michael Cart whose concepts actually looked real and his ideas were really impressive around the web. Apple has been hiring many folks around the web who were into hacking iOS and many around Cydia two of them who are well known were

  1. Peter Hajas
  2. Nicholas Allegra a.k.a Comex

Peter Hajas was a tweak developer who actually brought out the concept of the notification center and released it in Cydia. After than before the iOS 5 release Apple hired him and of course the iOS 5 which is running now has his designed notification center for sure.

Who doesn’t know @comex ? A 19 year old geek who actually hacked iOS and released first web based jailbreak around the globe who has took up as an intern by Apple in summer holidays who after wards claimed that now he is out of “Jailbreak Me” scene and is working with Apple.

So Jan-Michael Cart is not the one and after all at least every one has an ambition and a dream which his got fulfilled, in one of his recent post he said on his blog

And like that, my time has come — I am now a member of the Apple community. I will still update my website with random small portfolio additions. I will also open up the blog portion of my website to document my day-to-day happenings in Cupertino. Stay tuned!

With the best wishes to him improving Apple, below are some of his recent concepts around the web

iOS Hacker Comex Says No More JailbreakMe, Also Talks About Apple Internship

by Hamza Tariq - on Aug 30th 2011 - No Comments

We have recently informed you about the most famous jailbreak hacker named Comex to hire by Apple as an intern; the real name of Comex is Nicholas Allegra, but best known as Comex in the jailbreaking community, and for creating the easiest jailbreak for iOS devices, in which users not have to connect their device with PC , and nor to perform confusing steps. He recently releases JailbreakMe 3.0 to jailbreak the iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.3.

Here are some parts of the Q&A:

Question: After your internship with Apple and after iOS 5 is officially released, will you continue to support the jailbreak community by providing exploits?

Comex: No.

Edit: But I’ll want to jailbreak my phone, so I hope someone finds them :p

Q: Why an intern position though? It seems like you could carry a regular position at apple.
How has the core jailbreak dev teams responded to you going to work forapple?

Comex: I don’t know if I’d want to do that- I’ve never had a job before and I don’t know what it’s like- and I intend to go back to college soon.
Mostly with congratulations.

Have you made any money from the jb scene?

Comex: I’ve made a good amount of money through donations, which is mostly being used to help pay for college. JailbreakMe 2.0 was like $40,000; 3.0 was $15,000 (not quite sure why it decreased).

The jailbreak community took a huge hit when you left. Do you think the active players can outsmart you now that you’re playing for the other team, or are you Apple’s final solution to their jailbreak problem?

Comex: There are a lot of smart people working for Apple already; maybe I can help, but I doubt I can stop people from finding exploits.

Have you met Steve Jobs?

Comex: I wish.

Can you give any insight on how apple views the Jailbreak communities mods?

Comex: I have no idea.

As a huge open book for them to steal take ideas from.

Comex: I certainly don’t mind. Jailbreak community puts an idea in front of people with a crappy implemenation; Apple polishes it to the point where it can be an OS feature. I don’t know whether Apple actually pays attention to jailbreak apps, but see App Store, copy and paste, multitasking, etc…

What, besides money, made you flip to the other side?

Comex: It’s not about money. A large part of my motivation to jailbreak was always the challenge; the internship will be a new sort of challenge.

Will the current jailbreaks and/or the site disappear?

Comex: No, I’ll hand them over to MuscleNerd or chpwn or whoever will take care of them

Recently after releasing JailbreakMe 3.0, he was exclusively profiled by Frobes, but he didn’t speak too much about himself and even does not comment about the status of future JailbreakMe and his shocking internship at Apple.

As you have read his answers above, you can also judge that he will not going to continue his JailbreakMe and will also not going to stick up with Apple’s internship, as we have noticed in his Q&A, he wants to go back to college and continue his studies, we have also noticed that he’s not doing all of the stuff for your crap money, he always take iOS as a competition and did well. By the way, he also told that this time folks didn’t donate him too much, as he did an awesome job!

MuscleNerd To Work On Jailbreak Me 4.0 ?

by Absar Abdul Rahman - on Aug 28th 2011 - No Comments

Apple has been taking many hig qualified decision in this week and one of them was interning @comex, the developer of Jailbreak Me and may be developing Jailbreak Me 4.0. Of course after his arrival to Apple no one can think of Jailbreak Me 4.0 but today some tweets were shown around which quietly rises a hope of the next Jailbreak Me to jailbreak iOS 5.

Jailbreak Me 4.0Jailbreak Me 4.0

After looking up to this tweet one question should irritate us and that is

Will MuscleNerd make Jailbreak Me 4.0 or his own redsn0w ??

And for sure one more thing, that the hackers community has already made a powerful exploit and is waiting for Apple to release iOS 5 publicly.

Jailbreak Me has been the easiest jailbreaking method ever and the 19 year @comex have been working hard on this and as for the Jailbreak Me 3.0, everyone remembers the leak of it but still everyone likes the Jailbreak Me effort by @comex.

Apple has hired @comex as an intern but why ? Of course for the security holes to find up in their software, but we guess Apple should hire the whole dev team so that they get a lot of power and they will.

Last but not the least, is Apple going to intern him forever ?

Does anyone hopes to see Jailbreak Me 4.0 ?

Apple Hires Another Big Name Of The Jailbreak Community, Comex

by Absar Abdul Rahman - on Aug 26th 2011 - 1 Comment

Today is another day I guess in which Apple has fallen towards the hackers. Few months back Apple hired Peter Hajas a guy who added the notification center in to the iOS 5, probably because one of his tweak was just a hit on Cydia and on every jailbroken device which has the same UI of todays iOS 5 notification bar.

Today Apple has hired another famous hacker who invented the Jailbreak Me, yes Comex. Apple’s iOS 5 is for sure having a big change but with a lot of tweaks added up by Cydia and the users who have never experienced any jailbroken device, feel it like a heaven.

The Person Who Leaked iPad 2 Jailbreak Gets Unveiled (Report)

by Daudi - on Jul 3rd 2011 - No Comments

Later today iPad 2 jailbreak was leaked in wild to public and no one knew who did it. Any ways who got their hands on to it are using it and those who don’t should wait for the proper one because the one is leaked is in Beta and got many bugs.

Now the Jailbreak is leaked so Apple must have got their hands on to it and must be working to fix it. Some one did a Dictionary attack and leaked the Jailbreak.Till now the person was unknown and people were willing who is the moron who leaked the iPad 2 jailbreak. So the moron is known as Ryan who is indirectly responsible for the leak.

This what he have to justify on his blog:

Am I responsible for the leak?

Indirectly, Yes.

Did I leak it intentionally?

Not really, I only intended for 1 or 2 people to try the files to see if they worked. The person who leaked it was Will Sayer, and him only. He released the files, sent off the info to news sites not me.

Update 1: This is regarding the tweets will has been posting about me.

I am not a beta tester, and I do not know when the jailbreak will be released. I never told him that it would be out at a certain time on a certain day that was all Will Sayer the douche bag ruining my life right now.

I guess the best way to start this is to start at the beginning.

This all started late one night on the 27th of  June. I was playing Star Craft with some friends reading Comex’s twitter updates like every other person waiting for the jailbreak. That is when I had a crazy idea just to search a site he posted in a previous tweet. That site was www.qoid.us , during my initial search, the main thing that came up was comex’s bannerbomb exploit for the wii. This lead me to believe even more that the site was his. The next thing I did was just do a search for directories on his site and that is when I stumbled upon it. I saw a folder called saffron that grabbed my attention, mainly because jbme 2.0 was star.

So what would you do if you stumbled on a website that had all the data for the jailbreak people have been waiting months for? At first I wasn’t sure what to do, let alone believe I found the files. The only true indication that I found them was all the pdf files, deb files named after different iOS devices, and a php file. The last thing I wanted was to just send out all the files saying here they are. As someone who has worked on a project for years in the past I would hate for my work to leak out before my self or the team was ready. Comex had been working on this for almost a year.

The first thing I did was the obvious, test the files. From comex’s tweets at the time I figured they were close to completion and wouldn’t completely brick my iPad. The next was I made a copy of the files for my own purpose of trying on other devices, not to leak them. I didn’t know if comex would have the files moved before I woke up the next day. Then as proof to my friends who had no reason to even want the jailbreak, but wanted to see it I uploaded them to this site. Worst mistake ever.

Now comes the next day, what would you do with the information you gained from decompiling and decompressing the files. You don’t want to leak them, but there has been no information on any updates. People are starting to doubt the jailbreak is even real. What I did was just spread information about the jailbreak, no pictures, no files, just me posting on forums what I know. Of course there were people calling me names saying I am a troll and other names. Next I sent off private messages to two people on the forums I was posting on. At that point after a few messages the only thing I sent was a picture. That was the first and only thing I sent. The picture was of the new jailbreakme website, with the url removed so the site didn’t get out. That was the end of it on June 28th.

I went on vacation on the 30th and won’t be home until July 15th, but my curiosity started to get the better of me last night. I have these files that didn’t work on my iPad, but I wondered if they would work at all. I contacted another person on the forums who was multimediawill aka appreviewer will aka Will Sayer. He tried one of the pdf files and it jailbroke his iPad. I was surprised, he was surprised. He swore up and down he wouldn’t leak it, and I went to bed. That is when I woke up and saw my list of emails streaming in. Immediately the files were deleted, I felt stupid and horrible that my curiosity got the best of me and caused this. I never intended for it to get leaked out this big. In all I apologize to comex for my actions.  I don’t want attention, and never wanted to spread his work like Will did. I was just curious, and this curiosity caused this. So in the grand scheme of things the leak was probably 10% my fault, I found the files, made a copy and re-hosted them, but Will was the exact opposite. He wanted attention and spread the news to tech blogs made videos and even spread the links to the files on my site.

So now the final questions where are the files?

Gone, non-existant. I deleted them all and do not have copies of them anymore so don’t even bother asking for them.

In conclusion Ryan  got the files from Comex website and wanted to test on his own iPad and they never worked, so he contacted a guy called multimediawill aka appreviewer will aka Will Sayer who tried the files on his iPad and it worked. Now both Ryan and Will were shocked. So Ryan asked Will not to leak the Jailbreak in the wild and Will Swore that he won’t.But he couldn’t resist and leaked the Jailbreak.

In the end we got to Morons Will and Ryan who are involved in the Leaking of the Jailbreakme Jailbreak for iOS Devices which was to come by Comex.

Now the Beta Jailbreak is released in Wild and Comex was about to finish the bugs of the Jailbreak. So we can expect a unexpected Delay in the Jailbreak by him to be released. It is now totally up to him when to release the Jaibreak for iOS Devices.

Any ways save your SHSH Blobs for iOS 4.3.3, even for iPad 2 because Apple is on the loose to fix the Beta Leaked Jailbreak of Comex and it is expected that they might release iOS 4.3.4.

Comex is Improving Jailbreakme 3.0? Release Near?

by Daudi - on Jun 14th 2011 - 21 Comments

Comex the Dev behind Jailbreakme 2.0 was Tweeting something related to new source codes, a Tweet pointed out towards a new UIScrollView’s Code which is said to be for the jailbreak site.

My challenge is that the only reliable solution is to look at UIScrollView’s code, but I haven’t “learned to read” these FP instructions.

(the scroller is for the jailbreak site)

Previously Comex teased about the Exploit he founded for the Jailbreak, which is said to be the same PDF exploit which was used in Jailbreakme 2.0.

Comex is working on the new Jailbreak. No words are said on when the jailbreak will be released or what iDevices and on what firmware can it Jailbreak and the most important thing that will it Jailbreak iPad 2? Already 2 people are working on the Jailbreak for iPad 2.
