Apple Starts Hunting iOS Apps That Access UDID Information

by Hamza Tariq - on Mar 26th 2012 - No Comments

Sometime ago, we have reported that Apple is planning to take some significant moves against the applications and the developers who are seeding applications in the iOS devices’ App Store to gather user’s personal information silently from their devices. It had been coupled of times reported that Apple kicks out the certain application from the App Store for violating that rule, but now it is reported that Apple has started flagging the applications and developers in their iOS App Store that are using UDID information on user’s devices.

The UDID is a kind of unique term that helps Apple and other regulators in looking for a certain device, and its owner, mostly it is used among the developers, as Apple allowed them to register their applications for beta testing without even launching the app and games in the App Store. The UDID is also very dangerous, as it can easily reveal all the information regarding you. Every iOS device contains unique UDID key, so there will be no error in the uniqueness of this UDID key on an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.

Apple has reportedly started kicking out the applications and games from the App Store that are accessing the UDID data to make a chart or track the downloads of the applications at developer’s end, and starts alerting the developers to update their applications with some more security, as if the Apple Store team caught you with the hidden code accessing the UDID data, you will be kicked immediately from the App Store. It is said that two out of Apple’s ten App Store teams are now completely working on the project to remove the applications from the App Store that are using Apple’s UDID information, and reportedly, the other teams will join them shortly.

Recently, including all the major mobile vendors, Apple also targeted by the Senate members, as the couple of iOS applications been caught using the user’s personal information, like the Path, uploading the entire user’s address book to its server for providing a quick service back to the users. However, the issue is resolved now, but started another movement in the world against the such apps that are sniffing the user personal information without any kind of permission.

by Hamza Tariq - on Mar 7th 2012 - No Comments

Apple has been actively working on its iOS App Store, as it becomes the mainstream service of the company and the only single place from where iOS device users can download applications and games for their devices. Long time ago that Apple has made any changes to the UI of the iOS App Store for any iOS device, but now just ahead of the iPad 3 launch it is reported that Apple has start pushing slightly changes to its iOS App Store including the new UI elements for the iPad. The newer iOS App Store is currently under the process, and will only be rolled out to the iPad users.

The newer iOS App Store UI element update has just changed the way in which they show the top selling, paid, or free applications on the iPad devices. The new interface carries a horizontal scrolling style, which means that Apple has just dropped the older vertical scrolling style of the iOS App Store.

However, it is noticed that the new small design change of iPad iOS App Store gains some speed improvement over the looking for content in the Store, and now brings the result more quicker than before. Now users don’t have to wait for couple of seconds to get their hands on the extended 25 applications on their iOS App Store, because the new UI elements of iOS App Store gain some improvement and load the result quickly.

The new iPad iOS App Store UI update is currently not rolled out for everyone, as the updated UI of the Store is currently only available to number of users around the world, and might be kept secret for the iPad 3 launch prime time. There are many things coming soon on the tomorrow’s morning media event. Follow the event with us on our live coverage blog.

App Store Reached 25 Billionth Apps Download, Apple Announced All-Time Top Apps

by Hamza Tariq - on Mar 4th 2012 - No Comments

If you remember, we have reported you few weeks back that Apple has been promoting its App Store biggest milestone of reaching 25 billion applications download since the Apple’s App Store launched publicly. Today Apple has announced that they have reached the milestone with 25 billionth application download from their store for the iOS devices, and has yet to announce the winner of the App Store application download contest.

Apple’s App Store has reached this big milestone in the time period of three years, and we believe the next 25 billionth applications download will not going to take such a long time of 3 years. We hope, Apple will soon announce that they are about to reach the 50 billionth application download from the App Store, but still the event is far away from us. Some days ago, Apple has published a new tracker page on their iTunes App Store website that tracking the live downloads of the application from the App Store, and in addition to the tracker Apple also announced that they will giveaway $10,000 iTunes Gift Card to the winner of the contest, the user who download the 25 billionth application from the App Store.

However, at the moment Apple has yet to define its contest winner, but they have pushed up a new banner on their website claiming the 25 billionth application download. We are damn sure, they will highlight this milestone on the upcoming week iPad 3 launch event. While the information regarding the contest is not transparent, Apple has announced a new category of its all-time top applications for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Viddy iPhone App Removed From App Store Due To Users Explicit Video Content

by Hamza Tariq - on Feb 27th 2012 - No Comments

We have seen many cases in which Apple had removed applications from App Store due to violation of their rules by the developers of the application for iPhone, iPad or any other iOS device. But it seems that this case going to be the very first app removal case of iTunes App Store on which Apple has removed an application due to the users of the application. Interesting fact of the app removal case is that the application is not reported by any users due to false advertising, instead it is removed due to users who have started using the application and its service in a wrong way.

Viddy for iPhone users is said to be the first application that have been removed from App Store, because Apple got its users while filling the application with a lot of explicit adult content, and we clearly knows that Apple is not going to include any adult thing in its App Store, and already been ditched by many big titles of the market to include in the App Store. Viddy is removed from App Store due to some users who actively start capturing and uploading adult videos data on the applications public servers.

Viddy is like a video catalog like Instagram that lets you capture small videos with your device, some cool places and scenes and then allows you to upload on the application public servers to be shared online with other users. It is reported that in some recent weeks, some users actively started pushing adult videos on the application servers, and turns the application into a big trouble, and now after a week of monitoring Apple pulled down the application from the App Store.

The team behind the Viddy application is well known to the problem, and supports the Apple decision of the removal of the application from the App Store. In short, they have start working on better technology for their application that prevents users from uploading such explicit content publicly.

Apple Working To Simplify iTunes Store & App Store In 2012 Update

by Hamza Tariq - on Feb 21st 2012 - No Comments

It is not a secret that Apple has not updated the iTunes Store from a long time, nearly since the actual launch of the iTunes Store with iTunes 9. It is reported that Apple is working on the new revamped version of the iTunes and App Store Marketplaces with the high priority as the both services is not touched by Apple from a long time, and many users are not happy from their performance. 9to5mac, reports that their source reported them that a new version of iTunes Store and App Store marketplaces is coming later this year, with a new UI focusing to simplify the user experience while browsing through the big huge content database, while in the new revamped iTunes Store, Apple is targeting to introduce something that increases interactivity, and discoverability of content in the iTunes Store.

According to the report from 9to5mac, Apple has been working from a long time to introduce something new in the market that helps them in competing with some new rising stars of the market, like Spotify, and Amazon new cloud music services. Apple is for surely planning something mind provoking UI launch for the iTunes Store that may help them in surviving in the market. As the flow of the report suggests, Apple is focusing currently on the desktop version of iTunes Store and App Store, which is accessible through the iTunes application. It is not clear at the moment, how Apple will roll out this big update to its iTunes Store, whether the revamped iTunes Stores will come alongside a new major version update of the iTunes application itself, or come alone with simple web version of the iTunes Store.

In the report, we also learn that Apple is also working to revamp iTunes Store experience on the iOS, but before concentrating on iOS version, Apple wants to seed something cool to desktop users. However, the update is said to be coming in the end of this year.
