Apple iPhone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. Nokia Lumia 920 Comparison

by Ankit Pandey - on Sep 15th 2012 - No Comments

The biggest wait is over now for the tech savvy enthusiasts as the iPhone 5 has been launched on September 12. But this is not all, the consumers are again found in a state of confusion as they cannot decide which Smartphone to choose between iPhone 5 and its biggest competitors in the garb of Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung Galaxy S3.

Here, we bring to you the detailed comparison between the three giants so that you can pick up the best.

Design and looksiPhone 5 vs Galaxy S III vs Lumia 920 : Comparison

With its 4 inches display screen and 16:9 aspect ratio, iPhone 5 is amazing when we talk about design and looks. Thus, you can easily watch the videos and that too without any more black bars down its sides. It even accommodates extra row for the app icons. It is even slender and is considered to be the thinnest phone ever in the whole world.

Talking about Lumia 920, with its polycarbonate casing and curved edges, it is in full effects and has been provided with the curved glass display screen and not the flat one like the case with Lumia 900.

As far as Galaxy S3 is concerned, it is the bigger beast out of all. At just 8.6mm thickness, it is slim but surely can’t match iPhone 5. S3 packs in the amazing 4.8 inches display screen and so it seems to be a bit larger in the hands than iPhone 5.

Camera capabilities

Comparing the camera prowess of these three phones is a little tricky and tough as all of them bring A-game in this category. iPhone has set true benchmark as far as camera performance is concerned. There have been improvements in its imaging system. Some other improvements include panorama mode and low light performance.

Then, the Galaxy S3 is there with the sensor which provides same 8 MP resolution as iPhone along with a number of features for the different shooting modes such as Multi shot burst and panorama.

Lumia 920 is in fact the actual dark horse when it comes to showing its camera prowess. On papers, it is 8.7 MP with PureView technology but it definitely offers better performance than S3 and iPhone 5.

Display screen

iPhone has increased its screen size for the first time, keeping it a 4 inches for iPhone 5. It is not that big in fact but it is surely better than 3.5 inches. The phone remains hand friendly than other giants in the Smartphone realm.

The 4.7 inches screen of the Lumia 920 has magical resolution that even surpasses that of S3. You can thus expect the icons to be super duper crisp and crystal clear text.

Then, as we come to Galaxy S3, with 4.8 inches display size, the screen is surely bigger than the others and in fact touches the boundary of the tablet category. But the big display can be great to see movies and playing the 3D games.

Software

With its iOS 6, iPhone 5 has become really popular as far as software is concerned. It lets the users make the FaceTime calls over the 3G network and offers deeper and better integration with Facebook and Twitter.

Lumia 920 is first phone of Nokia that features latest version of phone operating system by Microsoft, the Windows Phone 8. It looks just like Windows Phone 7 like its home screen tiles are in place with the placement and sizing a bit flexible.

As far as Samsung Galaxy S3 is concerned, there is the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in it.

Battery life

Nokia has the Lumia 920 with the 2000 mAh battery that offers a great run time and that too considering the fact that the Windows Phone has been economical OS. Then, S3 is there with 2100 mAh battery that can last for around 9 hours or a bit more. Apple promises to provide 10 hours videp playback as well as 8 hours web browsing over the LTE.

Verdict

It seems that you can opt for the iPhone 5 in case you want to go with the latest Smartphone around. As it has an intuitive, reliable package, it earns high points for its hardware and software reliability. LTE speed, strong, solid design and nice camera are nice features that it has.

However our verdict doesn’t mean that you will stick to it. You can research more and see which one is the better pick for you and why. But one thing is sure, iPhone 5 truly faces the stiffest competition from Lumia 920 and Galaxy S3.
