Apple is about to unveil the much-talked about iPhone 5 in its September 12 event “It’s Almost Here.” Earlier there were reports that iPhone 5 will have more or less the similar pricing structure like that of iPhone 4S. Now, according to the Wall Street Journal, iPhone 5 will come with a feature that supports LTE networks “around the world.” The countries where this network will be available include US, Asia and Europe as well. However the reports further make it clear that iPhone 5 will not likely support each and every single carrier’s network in each and every country.

What is LTE?

LTE basically stands for Long Term Evolution. It is said to be the obvious successor of present generation UMTS 3G technology based on WCDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA as well as HSPA. It should be noted that LTE is not the replacement of UMTS (like UMTS was a proxy for GSM), but is just an update for UTMS which enables faster loading and downloading of the data.

From the Wall Street Journal

It is accepted widely that the new iPhone might come with the LTE functionality. New reports from the WSJ peg that iPhone 5 will support for the multiple LTE networks around world. To be precise, it is still not clear which LTE network the device will support. However, WSJ makes it clear that Europe, Asia and US will be included. It is definitely a win-win situation for the iPhone 5 owners because it means that they will have the LTE roaming facility in various countries across the globe.

Chips compatible with LTE bands

This news could be a great excitement for the people who were feeling disturbed by 4G LTE implementation in their new iPads, which did not enable the users to make use of the 4G LTE in places beyond US. New iPhone is said to be equipped with the Qualcomm MDM9615 chip which would try to solve the problem to a huge extent because it would enable compatibility with LTE bands than chips found in 3rd Gen iPad.

Extend of the LTE compatibility in iPhone 5

Extend of LTE compatibility is still not clear but Apple wont hide these detail for a longer time. The September 12 event from Apple, where iPhone is rumored to be launched will definitely give way to the juicy details as well. All the news can be had from the live blog of this event. Latest rumors can also be found from the Apple’s official blog.

With LTE networking in the Apple’s new smartphone, users will be more than happy to use the new iPhone because it would provide them accessibility to the roaming facility in various countries all over the world. Rest of the details will only be available on September 12 when iPhone  will be officially launched.
