Well if this is right news, than Apple is going to copy the feature of Android for bringing update to its iDevices. Accroding to the report of 9to5mac, Apple is working with Verizon to deliver all next updates of iOS over the air with start of iOS 5.

Multiple sources say the new feature will debut in iOS 5, meaning iOS 5 will not come over-the-air but following point updates to it will. Just like tethering in iOS 3, Apple has the technology but cannot just unleash it everywhere. Apple and Verizon Wireless are said to have been in talks over these wireless software updates since early this year.

If you are not familiar with Over-The-Air update system, in this system users can directly download the next iOS update on their iPhones, iPad and iPod Touch directly over 3G or Wifi connection, in this feature you don’t need to connect your iPhone with Computer and to update it via iTunes, well this feature is already available in Android so this time Apple is nothing introducing new feature.

iOS 5 Over The Air Update

To produce this system, Apple needs to talk with different supported carriers to provide such systems which allows users to download the new update of iOS directly on their devices. Apple is already providing this functionality on Apple Tv, which is based on iOS 4 and offers over-the-air updates of iOS, so in this we don’t need to connect Apple TV to iTunes for iOS update.
